Zynga Shutters PetVille, 10 Other Gaming Titles Citing Cost Cutting Measures

Zynga’s road to recovery and a way to welcome the New Year includes cost-cutting measures of not just laying off employees but, also closing down of games such as PetVille, Mafia Wars 2, FishVille, ForestVille and 7 others.

Mark Pincus, back in October, had announced that it was going to close gaming titles which were old and that Zynga was about to reduce investment in The Ville. “We are sunsetting 13 older games and we’re also significantly reducing our investment in The Ville,” Pincus had noted in a blog post. December 30 saw closure of 2 such games – PetVille and Mafia Wars 2.

Games such as FishVille, Vampire Wars and Treasure Isle have been already closed down on December 5. Some of the apps that have been pulled from the app stores include Forestville, Mojitomo and World Scrabble Challenge.

This development has come as a shock for many gamers who have spent countless hours and quite a lot of money to play these games with many saying that they will suffer from depression and miss their pets.

To ease the pain of closure, Zynga did offer free bonus package of virtual goodies to those who played FishVille, Adventure World and some other titles.
