Rockmelt has announced that it has been acquired by Yahoo! and it will be shutting down all its services at the end of the month. Users who want to export their data may do so as an OMPL file said Rockmelt.
Rockmelt started off with a goal to reinvent the browser, which didn’t work out. Moving ahead the company tried its hand on designing a new platform for web-based social feeds – more or less like Flipboard. The company has announced through a blog post that it has learnt a lot “about how you like to browse the web, discover content, and share the great stuff you’ve found.”
“You’ve been right by our sides as we’ve celebrated successes, endured failures, and invented new ways of doing things. You’ve taught us a ton. And we plan to put everything we’ve learned to work at Yahoo!”, added Rockmelt.
The team announced that its mission hasn’t changed and it will continue doing what it did and that they are “thrilled and honored to have the opportunity” to work with a “fantastic team of people.”
