Going into effect from May 15, the new privacy policy has been redesigned to be much simpler by using less legal jargons. The policy offers the same level of protection as the old policy – sharing of no personal data with third parties. Beyond this the new policy goes into more specifics of Reddit Gold and its third party advertising partner Adzerk.

According to Lauren Gelman, a San Francisco based lawyer, Reddit’s old policy was quite broad. Gelman added that the new policy has been specifically written “to apply to reddit.”

“The goal was to be clear and specific. Especially about data retention”, she said while appearing in the comments section of the announcement. Gelman has said that she will be incorporating changes to the policy based on the suggestions provided by redditors. Despite being specific to Reddit, the new policy has awaken quite a few rebels with dissenting voices.
