Yesterday there were reports that Google was eyeing the popular messaging app for $1 billion but, countering this claim Neeraj Arora told AllThingsD that the company is not in talks with Google for a possible sale. Arora didn’t reveal anything further.
WhatsApp has been receiving quite a lot of attention lately; first because of possible acquisition by Facebook and later because of the whopping 18 billion messages it served during last New Year’s Eve. Acquiring WhatsApp makes a lot of sense for Google as it can leverage the experienced team behind the popular messaging service and unify its disparate services like Google Talk, Google Voice and Google Hangouts.
According to recent estimates WhatsApp is netting somewhere around $100 million in revenue.
