The Hackulous community has got a message up on its site stating that they are closing down because of a stagnant community. ”After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town” read the website. The reason given is hard to digest because of the fact that the community has a steady stream of followers with income from ads.

The community went about cracking paid iOS apps and then distributed them through its Cydia application – Installous. With installations on millions on iDevices, the community would have definitely made enough through ad-revenue that would have sufficed for its operations. The closure took out AppTrackr as well which acted as tracker for cracked apps reports TorrentFreak.

There are quite a few other sources through which users of Apple gadgets would be able to get their hands onto cracked apps but, the gaping hole left by Hackulous would definitely be hard to fill for now.
